MURPHY DELIVERS

Age: 17 Years Old (March 26, 2007)
Height: 16hh approx.
Suitability: Companion

Fynn is a sweet and gentle gelding who was purchased at auction by an Amish man, but Fynn was found to have an old injury to his fetlock that has resulted in permanent unsoundness. The Amish man graciously gave him to his neighbour, who is hoping to find Fynn a permanent retirement home.

They have had x-rays completed, and have been working on corrective trimming to assist in Fynn's comfort level. He is on previcox and is pasture comfortable. The vet feels he has a good retirement future ahead of him, as long as he continues to get proper farrier care and his meds.

Fynn is a well-mannered boy who loves attention, but he can be a bit protective of his food - not unsurprising as he was underweight and is still gaining it back! He has no "horse" friends at his current home, and they really hope that he will be able to find a safe placement with proper friends his own size, where he can enjoy being a horse!

LYNX

Age: 12 Years Old (Born sometime in April 2012)
Height: 14.3hh
Suitability: Trail Riding

Lynx is a gorgeous gelding whose registration was not completed when he was a baby - but he is freeze branded. We purchased him from auction in early November 2023 and he has now completed his quarantine. He was sold as being with the Amish but was a bit sticky to "start" down the road.

Lynx was diagnosed with overworked hind suspensories, so will be best for a trail riding future, with a rider under 180lbs and likely would benefit from therapy/supportive boots.

Currently he is on 24/7 turnout, grained twice a day although could be on 24/7 hay with no grain. Lynx had never had his teeth floated before we purchased him, and he required significant dental work, as well as a surgical removal of an infected and broken tooth (approximately $2,500) at the end of February 2024. He will require semi-annual dental floats for life, to ensure that his teeth stay healthy and on track for long-term success. He is UTD on his farrier, vaccinations and deworming.

Lynx is an extremely gentle, sweet and overall amazing horse who is going to be a wonderful companion and partner for the right person.

Update February 2024: Lynx has now been backed under saddle and shows no issues taking a rider's weight. It will take a good foundation, as he has no idea what is being asked of him and is not super confident in himself. Lynx is not incredibly brave so needs a quiet and confident person to bring him along!

ROSE MASTER M C

Age: 16 Years Old (April 26, 2012)
Height: 15.3hh
Suitability: Companion / Light Riding

Rose is a beautiful dark brown mare who was purchased from a dealer locally in the area, who was planning to send her to the QC slaughter plant. She has an old injury to her ankle but it is hard, and she seems to be sound on it. Our hope is that this should not affect her for a light riding career!

Rose is extremely sweet and in your pocket, she has lots of personality and loves attention. She can be quite herd bound and doesn't yet see people as the place to "turn to" to enjoy company when she could be with other horses. After all of the changes in her life, this isn't a surprise.

Rose needs someone patient and understanding who will help her through her mental hurdles and learn to fully trust people again. She has been backed, but it will take a lot of foundation for her to be confident under saddle - we do not recommend she go to a home who treats her as a typical "hop on and go" Standardbred. That's not her style!

ADOPTION FEE: $250.00

CHARLOTTES STAR

Age: 18 Years Old (April 10, 2006)
Height: 16hh approx.
Suitability: Companion

Char was rescued from the direct ship pipeline in Pennsylvania at New Years 2024. She was found in deplorable condition, dropped suspensories, dehydrated and severely underweight. She has since joined our foster care program after completing quarantine, and is doing amazing. Unfortunately her suspensories continue to cause her some discomfort and she is now on Previcox, and likely will need dosage for life. However she has an amazing personality, and is going to make a wonderful addition to any family. She has been ridden and could do leadline for youth if a family was looking for a horse for their kids to fuss over!

Charlotte moves out sound, has no discomfort to her suspensories being palpated, and can live outside 24/7 or stalled at night. She is UTD on her farrier, vaccinations and is ready to find a retirement home of her own! She has one vice and that is that she is a chewer so will need non wood fencing, or deterrents.

We will cover the cost of Charlotte's medications for the first year of her adoption in an effort to find her a family of her own!

SHE BUTTERFLY

Age: 23 Years Old (June 6, 2001)
Height: 15.1hh
Suitability: Companion

Yuri is a special mare, who has spent many years of her life under top notch care as a broodmare as a farm here in Ontario. Unfortunately the last three years of her life seems to have been a lot of shuffling. She was sold by the first farm when they reduced their herd, and it's unknown what happened to her after that, but it seems she was sold a handful of times - the end result was she turned up with a kill buyer dealer in Pennsylvania in the summer of 2023 and we immediately stepped up to help her. Yuri happens to also be the dam of our very first kill pen save - NOT MY MAN.

Thanks to her breeders, they helped with the cost of her purchase and quarantine. The kindness of donors helped us to her home to us.

Yuri was found to be in foal, with a due date of spring 2024. Sadly on April 22nd, Yuri gave birth to a very large colt that her body was unable to safely birth, and even with human assistance, her colt sadly passed away. Thankfully, Yuri has come out of the ordeal as well as can be and the personality and spark she has carried throughout, is already back in her eyes. At this time, she is ready to begin looking for a permanent retirement home who will love her and spoil her.

She is used to being stalled at night but has been out 24/7 in the warm months. She is grained twice a day and on access to hay at all times. She is great to handle, will stand for hours to be groomed and loves her scratches. She is a herd leader and can be finicky and bossy if too many horses are around, so does best with 1 or 2. She loves her geldings but has been out with mares as well. Yuri likes her routine and does not do well with change so a small quiet facility vs a larger, busy facility will be her preference.

MISTER BIG TOP

Age: 12 Years Old (March 22, 2012)
Height: 15hh
Suitability: TBD

Topper is a gorgeous and quirky little gelding who retired off the track in in early 2024. He is currently learning the basics with under saddle work and learning about retirement life. He is sound, sane and has a ton of energy, so would excel with someone looking for a horse to hit the show ring with. He is small in stature and will do best with a smaller ride as he does not take up a lot of leg.

Stay tuned for updates on this handsome gelding!

JETMASTER

Age: 14 Years Old (April 20, 2010)
Height: 17.1hh
Suitability: TBD

Jet is a gorgeous gelding who had a short race career and then has spent the rest of his retirement with his owner/breeder. Sadly, they are quite ill and no longer able to keep him, so they reached out to us for assistance in taking Jet on and prepping him to find an adoptive home. This big, quirky gelding is 100% sound, but has lived a pretty sheltered life so change has been hard for him. He is adapting well to learning a new routine, new people and new paddock mates. He can be hard to handle, as he is a big horse and lacks some basic handling manners in respecting human space. He will continue to work on his ground manners over the next few weeks and then we will see how he takes to saddle. He is now barefoot, but is used to being shod, and is UTD on his vaccinations but we will have his teeth floated before he is available, as they have not been done in a while. Stay tuned for updates on this handsome guy!

LIGHTNING CHARGER

Age: 18 Years Old (May 21, 2006)
Height: To Be Determined
Suitability: To Be Determined

Charger is a super sweet gelding who was rescued from a direct ship pen in February 2024, thanks to donors and kind past connections. He arrived home and did some R&R with his former caretaker while he awaited a space to open up in our main foster program. Charger is now being assessed, as he still needs some weight and to get UTD on his veterinary work. His feet are still not in great shape and he is sore on hard ground, however he is otherwise sound and loves to run and play in the field. Charger is already broke to ride, so once he is UTD and back to good health, we will get him a refresher and start to prep him for an adoptive home!

EXTREME MEASURE

Age: 18 Years Old (May 26, 2006)
Height: To Be Determined
Suitability: To Be Determined

Extreme is a super sweet gelding who found himself in a direct ship pen in February 2024. He was rescued thanks in major part to his former connections, as well as the kindness of donors. He will need extensive rehab, as he was emaciated and very sore/unsound. He is currently rehabbing with his former connections, who are carefully ensuring that he has the best chance succeed! Stay tuned for updates on this sweet boy!

AMERICAM IDOL

Age: 23 Years Old (April 4, 2001)
Height: To Be Determined
Suitability: To Be Determined

Cam is a senior gelding who has definitely seen some of the worst humanity can offer. He was emaciated, hungry and was tagged to ship to slaughter before he was pulled thanks to the kindness of donors. He has a long recovery ahead of him, yet somehow throughout it all - he continues to have nothing but the sweetest personality. He holds no ill will or grudge towards people, and it's amazing how forgiving he is, after all that he has been through.

He has been doing well in foster care and has been putting the weight on, and has kept his sweet and gentle demeanour through it all!

SPICEY VICTOR

Age: 14 Years Old (April 18, 2010)
Height: 16hh
Suitability: TBA

Mace arrived to us when his racing career came to an end. He has some severely dropped hind suspensories that we are currently rehabbing to see that if with proper trims and treatment, we can get him comfortable and sound enough to be a companion horse. He has an amazing personality and would make an amazing EAL candidate if we can get him sound and comfortable.

It is a long road ahead for Mace, and he will need sponsorships to help get him there. You can learn more by going to our sponsorship program page - right now Mace's monthly costs are between $250-400 depending on farrier, therapy and veterinary care needed.

COWBOYS LIKE US

Age: 23 Years Old (May 10, 2001)
Height: 16.1hh
Suitability: Companion

Cowboy is a big, beautiful gelding who found himself in a dealer lot in December in horrible emaciated condition. Thanks to his former owner who immediately stepped up to cover Cowboy's costs to get home, we were able to welcome him to our program!

Cowboy has been assessed by a veterinarian and unfortunately his arthritis is extremely pronounced. He also has a Grade 4 heart murmur that will limit his future to being a companion only. We are sad for Cowboy, but so grateful that he has this chance to have a quiet, proper retirement where he will be loved and never be at risk again.

CAICOS BAY

Age: 10 Years Old (May 26, 2014)
Height: TBA
Suitability: TBA

Caicos was rescued from the Texas pipeline in late 2023. This young gelding found himself discarded due to a lameness issue that has plagued him right back to his unsuccessful race career.

One of his former caretakers recognized him and has been a huge advocate for spearheading the campaign to get him home. He will be heading to her for foster care once he completes quarantine, and we suspect he likely will be adopted - but stay tuned for updates!

SO CUTE HANOVER

Age: 16 Years Old (May 30, 2008)
Height: 15.3hh approximately
Suitability: TBA

Sookie is a gorgeous black mare that we purchased at an auction in November 2023. She was very shut down at the sale and showed no interest in anything going on around her. She has extremely run down hind suspensories and has missed a few meals in her day. At the sale, it was announced that she was confirmed in foal ... and it turns out that she was 10 months pregnant at the sale. Which means that Sookie is due to foal at any time in December/January. Not the ideal time of year for a mare who is underweight and shut down, but each day we keep working towards getting her as healthy and comfortable as possible. We will keep you posted on her progress, and her foal. It was announced that she was bred to another Standardbred, for a buggy driving horse. We look forward to meeting her baby, and we hope that Sookie will have no problems with this foaling. She has had numerous registered foals in the past, so this is not her first thankfully!

Sookie is in need of sponsorship.

Please consider being an angel for her today!

DOUCEUR DERABLE

Age: 20 Years Old (May 24, 2004)
Height: 15.2hh approx.
Suitability: Sanctuary Placement

Maple is a gorgeous chestnut mare that we purchased privately from her Amish owner, to avoid her going to the local livestock auction. Maple has been a buggy horse and broodmare for most of her life.

She does have dropped suspensories in the hind,  and unfortunately they have diminished her quality of life. At this time, she is doing well with her current quiet paddock companion, but we have discussed and determined that Maple should not be moved. She may have another year left in her, but she may also not be able to comfortably do another Canadian winter. She is happy where she is, and we do not wish to change that for her!

She is extremely sweet but has not been spoiled most of her life, so is still learning how to interact with people and learning to enjoy the pampered life.

Sponsors towards her sanctuary care costs would be graciously appreciated and you can do so by clicking this link.

MANHATTAN KILLEAN

Age: 23 Years Old (April 16, 2001)
Height: 15.2hh approx.
Suitability: TBA

Mannie is an incredibly successful racehorse and broodmare, who was one of the three that we took in, in December. She is in great weight and is UTD on everything, however she does have a pelvic tendon tear that happened in one of her last foalings, so unfortunately has left her with a permanent bulge. It does not affect her and she has had it for 3+ years now without issues. Unfortunately this spring, it has started to grow significantly and on veterinary assessment, it was determined that her intestinal tract is beginning to shift out of place, which will cause her extreme pain and discomfort. We have made the decision to move forward with euthanasia within the next couple weeks before she ends up in pain.

JUSTDOWHATYOUCANDO

Age: 16 Years Old (May 18, 2008)
Height: To Be Determined
Suitability: Companion

Libby was saved, along with Rose, when we purchased them from a dealer who was shipping them to the Quebec slaughter plant. She has conformational flaws in her hind end, that are the likely result of a serious injury when she was young.

She was assessed by a veterinarian who has confirmed that Libby is well adapted to her conformation and simply needs a home that will allow her to have the things she needs to be successful. She has however been fluctuating in her weight and soundness so we are going to have her reassessed.

She is good on 24/7 turnout, is in good weight and is good with other horses. She will need a patient and understanding farrier - and would benefit from a home who may have access to stocks for trimming; but those are not always accessible - so a farrier who is patient and can work in slow interims with her, as Libby does struggle to hold her hind legs up for extended periods of time.
